Lex groaned and rubbed his temples. Just one more hour, he thought to himself. Then I can go home and drown myself in a nice glass of Scotch. He closed his eyes and just wished for the day to end. Just as he was about to go home early, he heard chatter coming from the hallway.
“What in the hell is that?” Lex said, closing his laptop and stalking to his office door.
“Happy Birthday!” The door flew open and Lex’s eyes went wide as he saw Clark Kent standing there with a bouquet of balloons, a big box wrapped in purple paper and a chocolate cake.
Clark plowed into the room and set the present, cake and balloons on Lex’s desk before turning and giving Lex a deep, passionate kiss.
“Happy Birthday,” Clark murmured, resting his cheek on the top of Lex’s head.
“You just made my day,” Lex whispered, leaning into Clark’s touch. “I was moments away from going home early and sinking into a glass of Scotch.
“I was going to meet you at home, but … I thought you might need me here,” Clark murmured. “Mom baked you a cake.”
Lex sighed and wrapped his arms around Clark. “Thank you,” he murmured.
“I got you a present,” Clark purred.
“Really?” Lex asked, turning and looking at the box on his desk. “What did you get me?” He pulled away from Clark and walked to his desk, smiling at the brightly colored Warrior Angel balloons. He approached the box and slowly unwrapped it, carefully folding the up the purple wrapping paper and setting it aside.
Clark watched with a smile as Lex opened the box and smiled. He had spent hours burning and sanding and creating the perfect gift for his lover.
Lex gasped as he lifted his present out of the box. “Oh Clark,” he gasped as he cradled the hand carved cherry wood heart in his hands.
“It’s just a symbol, really,” Clark said as he moved closer and wrapped his and wrapped his arms around Lex. “You already have my heart.”
