Gibbs couldn’t decide whether to be impressed or annoyed at the Marine standing at the back of the ballroom, his back to Gibbs. The Marine was chatting with Stephanie, Vance’s assistant, cover tucked under his arm. Gibbs could tell the man was a Marine. His first clue was the man’s posture - the Marine stood tall, back straight. The second reason Gibbs could tell the man was a Marine was his haircut - not a high and tight, but clipped tight around the ears and nape and short enough at the top where it stood straight up.

“He’s either the smartest or the laziest man here,” Gibbs grumbled.

“Who?” Ziva asked, arriving at Gibbs’ side. She was dressed as Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager, and was garnering quite a few stares.

Gibbs nodded at the Marine. “Him,” he said.

“It is a costume party,” McGee said. He was dressed as Fargo from the show ‘Eureka‘.

“Costume indicates dressing up as someone other than yourself,” Gibbs said. “Wearing your uniform is not a costume.”

“Who’s the hot Marine?” Abby asked. She was dressed as Betty Paige, and everyone not staring at Ziva was staring at her.

“We do not know,” Ziva said. “He has not turned around.”

Gibbs tugged at his bowtie as he eyed the crowd. He was trying to make an effort, for Tony‘s sake, and had dressed as James Bond. Tony had said he wanted to surprise his lover, so they had decided to arrive separately.

“I don’t see … Tony?” Abby gasped as the Marine turned around.

Gibbs, normally a master at hiding his reactions, found himself gasping out loud, jaw dropped as he drank in the sight of his partner standing across the ballroom. The uniform was molded to Tony’s frame, outlining and emphasizing every muscle and curve of the younger man’s body.

“Wow,” Abby said. “Tony’s the hot Marine!”

Gibbs didn’t even remember pushing his way through the crowds, but suddenly found himself standing in front of Tony, looking deep into the bright green eyes.

“Mr. Bond,” Tony teased softly. His cheeks were a soft pink, a little embarrassed, unsure.

“Gunny,” Gibbs replied, reaching up to touch Tony’s hair. “What did you do?”

“You don’t like it?” Tony asked, his face falling a bit.

Gibbs reached up and ran his hands over Tony’s hair. “You didn’t have to … I love it,” he admitted. “What made you do this?” He kept running his hands over Tony’s hair, ignoring the looks they were getting from the crowd of people.

“Wanted to surprise you,” Tony murmured. “I guess it worked, huh?”

“Yes,” Gibbs growled, pulling Tony in for a hard kiss.

After a few minutes, Abby gave a loud hoot, jolting Tony and Gibbs from their private moment.

“Um … maybe the annual NCIS Halloween party isn’t the best place to do this,” Tony muttered.

“Ya think?” Gibbs mumbled. He turned and looked at the crowd. “All right, all right, the show’s over … go back to staring at Ziva and Abby.” He snagged Tony’s hand and dragged him from the party.

“Eager, Mr. Bond?” Tony teased.

“I have a Gunny to play with,” Gibbs growled possessively.
