It was still pretty early when Tony came back from his morning run. He could hear muffled sounds from the basement indicating Gibbs was already up and working on his boat. Tony smiled as he tugged off his running shoes, fixed himself a cup of coffee and moved out to the backyard to sit for a couple of minutes.
Tony pulled his cell phone out. He knew it was a Saturday, but he also knew his friend would be awake. There were a couple of rings on the other end before his friend answered. “Harvey? It’s Tony … I know, I wish you could have been there, too … “
Gibbs had heard his husband come back, but knew he needed some time to himself. He spent a couple more minutes down in the basement before heading upstairs to see if Tony wanted some breakfast. When he got to the top of the stairs, he heard quiet talking coming from the backyard patio. He stood in the doorway and watched his partner with a little smile, just listening.
“His will reading was yesterday,” Tony was saying. “$2.5 billion, Harvey … no, I’m not joking … Your firm already has the account information, Louis Litt was my dad’s attorney … “
Gibbs stepped out onto the patio and quietly sat down next to Tony, wrapping an arm around his husband’s shoulders and kissing his cheek gently.
“I want you to take the account,” Tony said. “Look into all of it … make sure it’s all on the up and up … Thanks, Harvey, I knew I could count on you … I’ll talk to you soon.” He sighed and hung up, resting his head on Gibbs’ shoulder.
“How are you doing?” Gibbs asked quietly.
“Good days and bad days,” Tony replied softly. “Today’s a good day.”
“Good,” Gibbs murmured, kissing Tony’s cheek. “Who was that?”
“Old friend from college,” Tony said. “High powered attorney in Manhattan. He’s gonna look at my Dad’s estate for me.”
“Good idea,” Gibbs replied, hugging Tony gently. “Want some breakfast?”
“Pancakes?” Tony asked with a small smile.
“If you’re good, I’ll even add chocolate chips.”
