Gibbs couldn’t remember the last time he’d been this nervous. He made sure that the living room was clean and dinner was warming in the oven. He was about to break one rule he never thought he would ever break. Tony was coming for dinner. And he wasn’t coming over as a friend, or as a coworker to discuss a case. Tony and Gibbs were having a dinner … date.
“What am I doing?” Gibbs muttered to himself as he set the table.
“Setting the table.”
Gibbs turned and stared at the doorway, where Tony was leaning casually against a nearby wall. The younger man looked … effortless. Dark wash jeans, white button up with the top four buttons undone, hair artfully mussed … Tony looked delicious. “You look good,” he murmured.
“Not looking too bad yourself,” Tony replied with a grin, eyeing Gibbs‘ obviously new jeans and black button up. He pushed off the wall and wandered into the dining room. “I rate a full table setting?”
Gibbs cracked a smile. “Well it is a … “
“A date,” Tony said. “So, cowboy steaks? I didn’t see a fire going.”
“No cowboy steaks tonight,” Gibbs said. “Thought I’d try something different tonight.”
“Just some stuffed tortellini, garlic bread and some salad,” Gibbs said. “Just so Ducky doesn’t get on my case about not eating vegetables.”
“Fancy. Need any help?” Tony wandered through the dining room to the kitchen.
“It’s all in the oven warming,” Gibbs replied, following Tony into the kitchen and pulling the plates out of the oven. He went back into the dining room and set the plates on the table, taking a moment to light a few candles.
Tony followed Gibbs back into the dining room and gallantly held Gibbs’ chair out for him.
“Neither one of us is the girl here,” Gibbs said. “But … Grazie.”
“Prego,” Tony replied with a smile. “Picked up some of my Italian?”
“You speak it enough around the office,” Gibbs teased, watching Tony sit down next to him. “I picked up a few words here and there.”
Tony chuckled. “My Nonna spoke fluent Italian,” he commented as he placed his napkin in his lap. “I spent summers with her and all I did was learn.” He took a bite of food and groaned softly. “This is fantastic, Jethro.”
Gibbs coughed on his bite of food. Tony had never called him Jethro - Gibbs, Boss, Bossman … never Jethro.
“You okay?” Tony asked softly, eyeing Gibbs carefully.
Gibbs swallowed and nodded, taking a sip of water. “Fine,” he replied. “Just … you’ve never called me Jethro.”
“Well, we’re not at work,” Tony said. “And I figured that if we are on a date, then first names are appropriate.”
“Definitely appropriate, Tony,” Gibbs replied with a smile.
Tony swallowed and turned to look at Gibbs. “So, along with the dining room, I also rate new clothes?” he teased.
Gibbs shrugged and gave Tony a grin. “Abby told me I should wear something … hip,” he replied.
“You didn’t have to get new clothes, Jethro,” Tony said. “Not that you don’t look sexy as hell right now, but … Don’t think you have to try to be something else.”
Gibbs gave Tony a soft smile. “Trust me, I’m too set in my ways to change,” he said. “They’re just clothes.”
Tony smiled and quietly went back to his dinner. The air throughout the dinner was electric and the conversation flowed easily. Tony had expected to feel uneasy about changing his relationship with Gibbs, and yet … it came so easy to him.
“This is … easier than I expected,” Gibbs said as they cleaned up their dinner.
“Moving our relationship forward?” Tony asked. “Come on, Jethro. You and I have been dancing around each other since Baltimore … it was only a matter of time.”
“I never even thought about it, honestly,” Gibbs admitted. “You and me. I’ve been married four times, Tony, to women.”
“Doesn’t mean a thing,” Tony said. “The outside doesn’t matter, Jethro. Quando due anima si incontrano, un amore allineare nasce.” He slipped his hand into Gibbs’ and pressed a kiss to the older man’s cheek. “I know this is new, but … it feels so right, Jethro.”
Gibbs smiled and pulled Tony into his arms, just holding him. “Feels right to me, too Tony.”

italian here
Only the translation for that phrase would be something like:
Quando due anime si incontrano, nasce un amore vero.
"Allineare" I think can be translated with: to line up (it's a verb).
Bye,
maria
