The Fourth Wal

I feel recently, like some fans in some fandoms (and I'm in a couple, so this isn't a jab at any one in particular) have just lost their manners when it comes to interacting with actors/actresses/directors/etc ... Yes, the fourth wall has practically been torn down with Twitter and Tumblr, but ... I feel like you should still respect whatever famous person you are tweeting to ...

Bagging on an actor who they feel didn't do all they should have to keep another actor on a show is uncool ... Tweeting to someone and telling them about how they're making it hard to not ship them with one of their costars is inappropriate.

I just ... when did fans lose their shit and get this feeling of entitlement?  Respect these people who just want to have a little bit of a private life.  I get that they're famous, so they are in the limelight a bit but ... wow.

*shakes my head*  I'm glad I'm not one of the crazy ones.

Do not get me started!!!

I'm active in two fandoms right now, and we both have seen the asshattery in NCIS fandom. It just boggled my mind.

In White Collar fandom, imagine the shitstorm when it was officially released that Matt Bomer would not play Christian Grey in the 50 Shades of Crap movie. Matt's on twitter but doesn't actually tweet. His WC costars, however, are all very active and have been the target of bullshit tweets over and over and over again. It was like a horrible car accident. You couldn't stop watching but it was sickening.

And let's not talk about the absolutely cray-crays who actually send graphic fic to the actors. *headdesks hard*

It's just ... *sigh* ...

And let's not talk about how OLD I feel in these fandoms ... well TW mostly LOL ... but ... it's just crazy.

And please, let's not send your favorite star smut you wrote O.o

Even better: send other people's fic to actors! *shudders* When Michael tweeted about McNozzo a few months back, he got a couple of recs for McNozzo fic. *headdesk* And a whole hunch of "ZOMG Y U NO SHIP TEH TIVA?! HERE, AI GEEV U REEL GOOD STOREH 2 REED!"

Please, someone take the internet away from these people!!!

Oh good lord ... I'd hate for someone to rec MY fics to an actor ... *shudder*

You can't force an actor to sail your ship ...

Well said! There's a reason I stay away from a lot of the fandom stuff... it's out of control and just makes me angry. I like my nice, sane little piece of the universe.

I tend to stick to the fringes, too ... it's just easier and less stressful. I really have no urge to get too deep into the fandom. I"ll write and post pics and join in the meta, but ... I like the quiet.

It's all been so inappropriate! The behaviour of some fans... *shudders*. I think the accessibility of some of the actors on Twitter hasn't helped. I hope/trust they know we aren't all like that. However, I am annoyed in NCIS's case that these are the fans they have been pandering to for the past few seasons. NCIS, particularly Glasberg, created this monster to a certain extent, and if they'd just concentrated on the other characters and relationships more evenly over the past 4 years, instead of only investing in one particular character and relationship, then they wouldn't have created this extreme sense of entitlement. Not that I think that's a lesson they've learned at all.

I'm sure that the actors/actresses/directors/etc. on Twitter know that we aren't all like those select few. Some of it could be writers who want to make sure fans kept watching but ... if they had continued to watch a quality show ... *sigh*

I can't add anymore to what everyone has said as its pretty much my opinion too. So I will just say I agree wholeheartedly and wish the idiots of the world would go back under their rock. :( Its just all so stupid to treat someone badly just because their "show" isn't doing what they want. Like whiney little 5 year olds for sure.

I just have to shake my head at some fans ... really.
