So, I wrote a couple of drabbles a while ago in the Suits fandom over on Tumblr about Harvey being disbarred, and a while ago decided to post them as a small ficlet on AO3 ... it's here if you're curious:  http://archiveofourown.org/works/950372

So, this morning I wake up to find this comment on the fic:

"Two things, one its debarred and two Mike is a lawyer because he passed the bar exam, the lie is about him going to Harvard's law school. Good fic though"

Rant Rant Rant )

I just had to bite back the urge to rant at this person.  So I decided I would just rant it out here.

I am so pissed right now.

We've been having internet issues.  We can connect, but it's spotty and it takes a few times to get pages to load.  So, I called Verizon on Thursday and started a ticket.  The man I spoke to was really nice and said our modem was probably bad (it's at least 10 years old, if not older) and it looked like something was wrong with the outside line.  So, he said someone would come out between 8 and noon today to fix it and replace our modem.

So my dad and I adjust our schedules so we can be home.  No one showed up.  Just before noon, someone from Verizon called me to 'follow up' and when I say that no one showed up, she said that they apparently did some tests from headquarters and CLEARED THE TICKET!!!!  They said they tried to call, but we don't have any missed calls at the house, nor did they try to call my cell, which was the number I gave them.  They don't have any openings for a tech this weekend, so my dad has to take time off work on Monday so they can come out and do what they were supposed to do today ...

I'm waiting for a supervisor to call me back, because they're apparently at lunch ....

So.  Pissed.  Off.
sinderella81: (Fuck It!!!)
I feel recently, like some fans in some fandoms (and I'm in a couple, so this isn't a jab at any one in particular) have just lost their manners when it comes to interacting with actors/actresses/directors/etc ... Yes, the fourth wall has practically been torn down with Twitter and Tumblr, but ... I feel like you should still respect whatever famous person you are tweeting to ...

Bagging on an actor who they feel didn't do all they should have to keep another actor on a show is uncool ... Tweeting to someone and telling them about how they're making it hard to not ship them with one of their costars is inappropriate.

I just ... when did fans lose their shit and get this feeling of entitlement?  Respect these people who just want to have a little bit of a private life.  I get that they're famous, so they are in the limelight a bit but ... wow.

*shakes my head*  I'm glad I'm not one of the crazy ones.
sinderella81: (Fic Tease)
So I was listening to Kevin and Bean on KROQ on my way into work this morning.

They were broadcasting from ComicCon and had one of the 'behind the scenes' people from Kevin and Bean on talking about the '50 Shades of Grey (Suck)' autograph signing that happened yesterday and how the author would only sign 200 copies.

Anyway, Ralph Garman (their entertainment guy) made an off hand comment about fanfic writers being 'crazy' and I then spent the next 10 minutes talking to the radio LOL  I guess it just bugged me that he would make a comment like that, and yes I'm sure he didn't make it to offend anyone.  I wasn't necessarily offended it just ... irked me.

Because, while there are some crazies out there, the majority of us are down to earth, hold down jobs and are all in all normal people LOL

That's it.

Here's their next move: The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA, would obliterate any semblance of online privacy in the United States.

And CISPA would provide a victory for content owners who were shell-shocked by the unprecedented outpouring of activism in opposition to SOPA and Internet censorship.

The House of Representatives is planning to take up CISPA later this month. Click here to ask your lawmakers to oppose it.

SOPA was pushed as a remedy to the supposed economic threat of online piracy -- but economic fear-mongering didn't quite do the trick.

So those concerned about copyright are engaging in sleight of hand, appending their legislation to a bill that most Americans will assume is about keeping them safe from bad guys.

This so-called cyber security bill aims to prevent theft of "government information" and "intellectual property" and could let ISPs block your access to websites -- or the whole Internet.

Don't let them push this back-door SOPA. Click here to demand that your lawmakers oppose CISPA.

CISPA also encourages companies to share information about you with the government and other corporations.

That data could then be used for just about anything -- from prosecuting crimes to ad placements.

And perhaps worst of all, CISPA supercedes all other online privacy protections.

Please click here to urge your lawmakers to oppose CISPA when it comes up for a vote this month.

Thanks for fighting for the Internet.

So, yesterday we filed some documents at the Court.  After we emailed courtesy copies to opposing counsel, they alerted us to the fact that we had the department wrong.  Now, we are assigned to one department for everything, but this specific hearing is being heard in a different department ...

So, we prepare a courtesy copy to deliver to the department today.  Our runner goes up today to deliver a courtesy copy and the department (12) won't take the papers because they have the 'wrong' department on it (19, where we're assigned) ... So, then we try to re-file the documents by fixing the face pages down at the copy room ... No, we can't file it again because it's already been filed!

So we can't deliver courtesy copies and we can't re-file it ... how is the department supposed to get the docs!  Except for to wait for Dept. 19 to forward it to Dept. 12 ... *headdesk*

There are many days where I can't stand the legal system ...

...who feels the need to take a break from an increasingly dysfunctional relationship.

My own thoughts here (after [livejournal.com profile] taylorgibbs left me a thought provoking comment) -- It was pointed out to me that those independent authors, musicians and filmmakers will be the ones hit hardest by this ... The people who need to get the message are the Big Guns ... the major corporations who are backing this. So ... sure, do a black out, but ... support the independents, those who are working for themselves, just trying to get their words/music/vision out there ...

So if, if you want to protest, then target the Big Guns ...

Or, sign petitions, write your Congressman, the Senators, hell, write the President ...

We can't usually afford to do much in a given month regardless but I'll gladly save any money we would have spent to help this cause. Megaupload was just the beginning. If we don't make our voices heard now the internet will soon change and it won't be for the better.

*hugs*

I imagine many of you have seen the reposted entry in protest of the Mississippi Personhood Amendment that would grant any fertilized egg the same legal status as an actual live person, thereby outlawing abortion, some forms of birth control and criminalizing miscarriages.

But there is also a threat on a national level. Today the House passed HR 358, which they are calling the Protect Life Act (or for those who oppose it the "Kill Women Bill") , a bill that would allow hospitals receiving federal aid to turn away women who need an abortion even if it is necessary to protect the health of the mother. While this bill is not in danger of becoming law, Obama has said he will veto it and it lacks the votes to overturn that veto, it is indicative of the fragile position of the pro choice contingent in this country and another volley in the right wing onslaught against reproductive rights. One of the most frightening things is that the bill's proponents are trying to frame it as an attack on Obamacare, an more widely unpopular measure, rather than a direct attack on abortion and the general public is not discerning enough to understand this.

This article gives a good overview of the bill, Obama's Statement of Administrative Policy against it, and how it relates to laws aready in place and previous failed attacks on abortion.

The fact that this bill will most likely never make it all the way into policy is no reason to ignore it. Complacency is dangerous and we can best raise our voices by contacting our local representatives and making our views known. You can also contact the Democratic National Committee HERE or the Republican National Committee HERE (click on the contact congress button, the actual page was down, supposedly for service).

Historically, the pro life lobby has not had a majority when it comes to public opinion but it has always been very vocal. In this time of concerted attacks on our reproductive rights, we need to change that and make our views heard loud and clear before it is too late. So contact your local representative, post about this on your LJ or just hit the button below.

To the Person who called 5 ... FIVE times today!!!

If I tell you that the person/people you want to talk are unavailble, do NOT unload on me and be bitchy .... I cannot force someone to talk to you ... I cannot walk to their office, put the phone in their hand and make them talk to you ... Gripe to me all you want, it will not change a damn thing!  Leave ONE message, and wait for them to call back ... calling repeatedly only frustrates people.

Thank you,

 Me.

Sorry, needed a work rant.

But!  I totally finished 'Death's Daughter' by Amber Benson -- it's a totally awesome and hilarious book!!!!  I was on the edge of my seat and laughing at the same time!!!!

Also, finished 'Hunted', the fifth in the House of Night series by PC and Krisin Cast.  This series is about vampires ... and the schools they attend ... See, in this universe, becoming a vampire is a genetic change that occurs ... there's more to it, but ... it's awesome ... The universe is mythical, matriarichal, biological and magical ... Zoey Redbird - the heroine, is, like Buffy, the epitome of Girl Power!!!  Yes, she makes mistakes, but she is smart and funny and a great friend ... even though she's younger than me, I admire her :D

That is all. :D

I understand that I am the first person you speak to when you call (at least the second half of the day), but please don't get all pissed at me if the person you want to speak to is out of the office, unavailable, at lunch, or really just doesn't want to talk to you.  Being pissed at me is not going to make that person want to talk to you, so leave a voicemail and WAIT FOR THEM TO CALL YOU!!!  *sigh* Thank you.

(yes, there was someone who called at least 5 times today wanting to talk to someone who was just too busy to take their call ... and we receptionists got the brunt of it)
