sinderella81: (Fic Tease)

So I was listening to Kevin and Bean on KROQ on my way into work this morning.

They were broadcasting from ComicCon and had one of the 'behind the scenes' people from Kevin and Bean on talking about the '50 Shades of Grey (Suck)' autograph signing that happened yesterday and how the author would only sign 200 copies.

Anyway, Ralph Garman (their entertainment guy) made an off hand comment about fanfic writers being 'crazy' and I then spent the next 10 minutes talking to the radio LOL  I guess it just bugged me that he would make a comment like that, and yes I'm sure he didn't make it to offend anyone.  I wasn't necessarily offended it just ... irked me.

Because, while there are some crazies out there, the majority of us are down to earth, hold down jobs and are all in all normal people LOL

That's it.

I don't think the author of Fifty Shades was a weirdo--just someone who got very lucky. She somehow found a niche that even she didn't know needed filling. Unfortunately, she did it with bad writing and even worse--crazy fans. It's the fans that go over the top and weird that give fanfic a bad name. Then again, I've found that anything having to do with Twilight, either Fifty Shades or the movie or the books is over the top insane.

*g* I don't think she's a weirdo either. She did get very lucky (and yeah with badly written porn)... And you're right, a lot of time it's the fans that bring all the bad attention to it ...

But I just thought it was a smidge rude for him to call fanfic writers crazy ...

Personally, I find it... I don't know, uncomfortable when fanfiction authors publish their works under different character names. I feel like if the idea originated from something else, publishing it's just taking someone else's ideas and spouting them as your own. I know that all ideas are pretty much the same, but with fanfic, you write them BECAUSE of a particular fandom; that's where it originates. I don't know how it works legally, but I don't like it.

The fact that the book is quite rubbish... Well, that's a whole other issue. Although, I'm glad women are comfortable enough with their sexuality to read the thing, it's one of the few pros I see from this debacle.

And YES we are normal, quite lovely people, if I do say so myself. xD

Yeah ... not a fan of just changing the names and slapping a new title on it ...

I'm glad women are reading it and comfortable enough with who they are to admit they enjoy it, but ... it's horribly written. I won't read it myself but I've heard enough

And we are all VERY lovely!!!! :D

I'm a complete whack job, to be honest, but I know where you're coming from. ;)

Everyone judges. It's just the world we live in, BB.
