The house was quiet. Bruce padded through the living room, tying his robe and rolling his shoulders. It had been a long night and all he wanted to do was sleep in the comfort of his wife’s presence.
The bedroom was dark, save for the light from the half moon filtering in though the sheer curtains. He slipped the robe off and draped it across the back of the chair near the dresser before climbing into bed and wrapping his arms around his wife.
“You know,” Bruce murmured conversationally against Lois’ nape. “No matter how hard you practice, how deep you breathe … I still know when you’re awake.”
Lois sighed and rolled over, mock glaring at her husband. “You’re such a smart ass,” she said, snuggling in close.
“It’s part of my charm,” Bruce replied, pressing a kiss to Lois’ forehead. “You didn’t have to wait up.” But he knew she always did.
“You know I can’t sleep unless you’re here,” Lois whispered, tucking her head under Bruce’s chin.
“I know,” Bruce replied. “But I’m home now.”
“You are,” Lois replied, her voice heavy with sleep.
Bruce smiled as he heard his wife’s breathing slow, her body become limp against him. He sighed and stroked her hair, staring out the window at the moon until he too, finally drifted off to sleep.
