Lex sat behind his desk, trying desperately to finish going over the report in front of him. He needed to finish and go pick up Lena from school for a weekend together. They were going to play hooky and spend the weekend in New York.
It was odd to be back in Metropolis; he had spent the last six years or so in Europe with Lena. He thought moving to another continent was what he needed, but he had been wrong. In the past couple of years, he had begun to miss Metropolis. He started to get the Daily Planet delivered to him, and had been shocked and surprised to see Clark Kent’s name in the bi-line of many a story. Seeing Clark’s name had brought an unexpected ache to his heart. And after years of seeing his name in the bi-lines – most of the time next to Lois Lane – Lex decided it was time to go home.
So, he packed up his daughter and his house, and moved them all back over the ocean to Metropolis. They spent the summer together, sightseeing all throughout the city while Lex got things ready so he could run his company again from his hometown. He also sent his staff out looking for the perfect school for his daughter; nothing but the best for Lena. His staff came back to him with a lovely school on the outskirts of Metropolis. He personally went to check it out, and found the school to be perfect for his daughter.
His meeting with the school headmistress was amusing. She blushed and stammered and tripped over her words. She expressed how pleased she was that he had selected her school for his daughter. Lex smiled and pressed her for the appropriate paper work. He came to the spot where he could designate someone to pick Lena up if for some reason he could not. Without hesitation he wrote down a name. The headmistress looked at the name. “Not your father?” she asked.
“No, not my father; I trust this person with my life and Lena’s.” Lex said with an air of finality. The headmistress had nodded as Lex handed her the paperwork and left. Lena had started school with no problems, and had quickly made friends.
Lex had just finished his last report and set it down with a sigh. He grabbed his briefcase, and left the office, telling his secretary to take the rest of the day off. He quickly reached the parking garage, got in his car, and drove off.
The music in his car was loud and pulsing; just the kind of music he needed to clear his head of work. His fingers tapped the steering wheel to the beat of the song. He was so intent on the road in front of him and getting to his daughter that he didn’t notice the large truck racing up behind him, and smashing into him.
As his car tumbled through the air, Lex’s last thoughts before impact were of his daughter and the one person he’d wished he’d reconciled with … Clark Kent.

I have to post my part in Magdelena's story, too, I have been bad.
Still. Love the wistfulness about making amends... but eeee! Cliffhanger!
