Nine months, two weeks and three days. That’s how long Gibbs had been gone. Tony sighed and looked at the calendar - he knew that there was a chance the Marines would call Gibbs back. Gibbs’ prowess as a sniper was unmatched and when they’d called to ask Gibbs to go to Afghanistan to train, he couldn’t refuse. And Tony had told him to go. He missed his husband - phone calls and Skype were not enough, not to mention Gibbs and technology didn’t mix well, so their calls were always cut short.
“Damn,” Tony muttered. “Can’t concentrate.”
“Having a day?” McGee asked.
Tony looked up and gave him a little grin. “You can tell, huh?” he said.
“When did you two talk last?” McGee wandered over and offered Tony a Nutter Butter.
“Saturday,” Tony said. “And Gibbs did something funny and I lost the call … again.”
“When’s he due back?”
“I’m not sure,” Tony admitted. “He said he thought he was almost done, but … “
“Anthony.” Ducky’s voice sounded from Tony’s phone. “Can you come down here? There is something quite urgent I need to speak to you about.”
“On my way, Duck,” Tony said with a soft sigh. He gave McGee a smile before heading to the elevator and down to Autopsy.
“Anthony, this body has the most interesting accumulation of wounds,” Ducky said as Tony entered Autopsy.
“Lay it on me … Duck.” Tony stopped talking and stared at the man standing on the far side of the room. “J-j-jethro?” No, his voice didn’t crack. No, those weren’t tears in his eyes, there was something funny in Autopsy making his eyes water. “If I get tearstains on this you’re buying me a new one, this is Zegna.”
Gibbs just gave his husband a smile, walked across the room and pulled Tony into his arms. “I will,” he whispered, pressing a soft kiss to Tony’s forehead. “Wanted to surprise you.” He pulled Tony into a tight hug, gently stroking his partner’s hair.
“Well, you succeeded,” Tony whispered, pressing a soft kiss to Gibbs’ jaw.
“Good,” Gibbs said, running his fingers through Tony‘s hair. “Come on, we’re going home.”
“But the case -”
“Is closed,” Ducky said with a smile. “Go home, Anthony.”
Tony smiled against Gibbs’ neck. “Going home, Duck,” he said, his voice muffled against Gibbs’ skin.
“And I don’t want to see you back here until Monday,” Ducky said. “Doctor’s orders.”
“Those are orders I will definitely follow,” Tony said, squeaking when he felt Gibbs’ hand on his ass. “Jethro, we’re at work!”
“Not for long,” Gibbs said, giving Tony’s ass a squeeze as he led his husband to the elevator. “Have a good weekend, Duck!”
“I know you two will,” Ducky murmured with a smile as he watched the two men make their escape.
