Clark whistled to himself as he walked the halls of Smallville High. School had been out for about an hour and Clark reveled in the small comfort of walking down the hall without bumping into someone or being nudged out of the way.
He entered the Torch office and dropped his stuff on one of the empty desks. “Hey Chloe, I thought of … “ He trailed off as he looked around and saw that the Torch empty. “Chloe?”
“I asked Chloe if she could make herself scarce,” Lex said as he stepped into the Torch.
“Lex,” Clark said softly, a smile crossing his face. “What are you doing here?”
“I just got back from Metropolis and wanted to see you,” Lex said.
Clark raced across the room and threw his arms around Lex. “I missed you,” he whispered.
Lex ran his hands over Clark’s back. “I missed you too,” he murmured, tucking his head under Clark’s chin. “Just couldn’t wait till this weekend to see you again.”
Clark pressed a gentle kiss to the top of Lex’s head. “This is a very nice surprise,” he said. “But, I actually just stopped by to drop off this article for Chloe … I have to go home and do chores.”
Lex sighed softly. “Well, how about you walk me to my car?” he whispered, sliding his hand into Clark’s.
“I’d like that a lot,” Clark said with a smile, squeezing Lex’s hand.
Together, the two of them walked down the silent, empty hall, hand in hand.
